Mark Daoust - Hide Your Love Away

Mark Daoust and his wife Claire were staying in the UK during a holiday from Ottawa, Canada. Claire is a cousin of Nigel's wife.  A live outdoor acoustic sing song proved great fun to do and yielded some instant musical chemistry between Mark and Nigel. So it was suggested that we got Mark in to record a song before departing for his home land.

Mark is quiet a Karaoke fan back in Ottawa and, like Nigel, is also a life-long fan of the Beatles. After a bit of thought, we decided to do a track with a fairly sparce arrangement that could be put together quickly. The final decision was made and the classic Beatles track 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away' was chosen for its great catchy choruses and easy guitar style.

With all the backing arrangement in the bag during one evening, Mark arrived at the studio the following night and we recorded three takes of his lead vocal part, the second one being chosen as the best. Wishing to stay true to the original Beatles version, we added the bare minimum of Lexicon reverb to the vocal and the song was mixed and mastered the following day.
