Joy Wade
Middle C Productions - session April 2006

This is the second (and infinitely more demanding) of the songs chosen by Joy.  Taken from the Leann Rimes album 'Twisted Angel', this track - 'The Safest Place' - presented us with one of our most challenging tasks to date.  But you know us, nothing like a challenge to bolster the portfolio!

The song is very deceptive, sounding reasonably simple on first listen.  But once you unravel the layers, you find it's one of those MASSIVE productions jobs that the Los Angeles producers seem to revel in.  Joy had already mentioned that she had not been able to purchase an existing backing track from any of the usual sources - and it's easy to see why. In any case, we laugh in the face of off-the-shelf backing tracks!

So after running through the song at the piano, we set about putting the pre-production together.  Combining various dance-style percussion loops with traditional rock drumming, bass, guitars - electric and acoustic, keyboards, orchestral strings, and special effects, was a tough call within the timescales but we think we nailed it. Have a listen and judge for yourself! Once again, Joy was thoroughly professional in her approach and she put in a top-notch vocal delivery.
